Monsters

Monsters are the bosses (and only battles) of The Void Rains Upon Her Heart.

Overview

These monsters reside near the cave where the Zaraden girls are trapped in. They are hostile towards outsiders, but only because they are lonely, and become friendly to the player if they are shown love in a battle. Each monster has unique traits, different personalities, and elemental strengths and weaknesses, and most are classified as members of one of six families, determining the color of Tetrids they drop. After being defeated and befriended, they give gifts to the player as tokens of their gratitude, and, in Story Mode, may cause certain Events to occur, often allowing the player to trade or earn extra gifts. Every monster has two Dreams to complete, and some monsters can be unlocked by completing said dreams. Like the Zaraden held captive, all the monsters are female.

Families

There are six families of monsters, and these families are Shambles, Guardians, Eyeric Glyphs, Zaramechs, Glass Flora, and Veyerals.

Shambles

A family of 4th dimensional monsters representing shame.

Guardians

A family of beastly, territorial monsters representing frustration.

Eyeric Glyphs

A family of symbol-like monsters representing denial.

Zaramechs

A family of mechanical monsters representing anxiety.

Glass Flora

A family of flower-like monsters made of glass representing insecurity.

Veyerals

A family of dark, spherical monsters representing loneliness.

Special Monsters

A group of rare, unique monsters that reward the player with every type of mote.

Thorned Monsters

Monsters with thorned cards have their own titles, and are comprised of monsters exclusively encountered in special chapters or events, and final bosses.

Newborn Monsters

Newly formed monsters who are each a member of one of the six families.

Simulacra

Simulacra are a group of spherical monsters that appear in Nova's boss battle, but can be fought individually. Each is considered to be in one of the six different monster families.

Heart Monsters

Semi-shiny monsters in the shape of a heart. They can only be met in the 5th position or further in a monster queue. Each of them belongs to a different monster family.

Shiny Monsters

Shiny battles are "bonus" battles, where the player fights against a monster that already loves them.

Alternate Forms

All boss battles can have Alter, Null, Rage, Shy, Shiny or Dual forms.

Alter battles are diverse, with changes to elemental attacks, movements, and even adding entire attacks or changing battle gimmicks.
Null battles add Void Walls to the arena, which periodically shoot a spike aimed at the player.
Rage battles force players to spend the fight staying in or moving between yellow safety bubbles.
Shy battles have two phases: the first solely consists of shooting down minions, while in the second, the boss will arrive and add her own individual attacks.
Dual battles have the player fight two variants of a boss at the same time.
