The Void Rains Upon Her Heart is a boss rush bullet hell shoot'em up developed by Veyeral Games and published by The Hidden Levels. It focuses on an alien girl trapped in a cave surrounded by monsters. The objective is to love these creatures in a series of boss battles with the help of gifts. The game released on PC via Steam in early access on February 14, 2018.
Gameplay
Story Mode
Story Mode is the base experience of TVRUHH. After choosing your character, you are pitted against random monsters. After defeating the monster, she will give you gifts, which can be seen at the monster selection screen. The more Karma you have, the more options you have in the monster selection screen, and there will be more powerful gifts.
Quickplay
Quickplay is a mode where you can freely battle any radiated monster of your choosing at any level (provided you upgrade Quickplay). You have a limited amount of gifts you can equip before your score gets reduced. The higher the level, the more gifts you can equip without a score reduction. After you beat a monster in quickplay, you get medals based on how well you do, with a Radiant Medal being the ultimate prize.
Altered Story
Altered Story is a longer story mode at its core. After defeating what would have been the final boss, you instead meet Abyss, who can add more monsters to your run in return for sacrificing things to her. You can sacrifice half of your Health Bar, all of your Panic Attacks, or gifts. After this, you have at least 3 more random encounters before a second final boss encounter. Afterwards, your score is tallied, and medals are awarded, much like Quickplay.
The Towers
The Towers are a mode in which you fight several monsters on your way up the tower. There are 6 main towers, each dedicated to a single monster family. You only fight monsters that you have already radiated, and radiating more will allow you to climb higher. There are also 3 other towers that work similarly to the others, but contain random monsters instead, ranging between 10 and 18 battles.
Ultimate Tower
The Ultimate Tower is a tower containing every monster in the game (so over 100 monsters in total!). Dying during the tower does not mean starting from the bottom, but there will be some penalty for death. There is something at the very top of this tower. The Ultimate Tower will be added in 1.0.
Endless Nightmare
Endless Nightmare is the endless mode of the game, where you fight the monsters in a repeating run as the difficulty increases.
Story
Synopsis
Alien girls are trapped in a cave, surrounded by bizarre monsters in need of love. Through the mist and rain, they realize they cannot help these creatures with violence, but with love instead. Each monster will react with rage, but express gratitude for their support, and even reveal a dream or two they may have. Even the most powerful of monsters cannot resist their endless love and hugs. While building connections along the way, receiving gifts and fulfilling dreams are some of the main objectives. Can their love grow strong enough to fend off the Void itself? Will you work to repair their hearts and keep believing in the good of these creatures, or will their hearts break once again?
